Our first priority is to minimize heating and cooling loads and energy demand by design, through:

  • careful solar orientation
  • compact building massing
  • high levels of thermal insulation and air-tightness
  • winter passive solar gain and summer shading (overhangs, vegetation)
  • selective window sizing and location, high performance triple glazing
  • thermal mass for passive heating and cooling
  • natural ventilation utilizing cross-ventilation and stack-effect

Our second priority is to manage energy through:

  • heat recovery
  • selection of energy-efficient equipment, appliances and lighting
  • systems integration and controls (such as programmable thermostats and CO2 sensors)

 Our third priority is to capture freely available renewable energy through solar hot water panels, ground-source heating and cooling, and solar air pre-heating.
